Skolo
A school van tracking platform built end to end — live GPS for parents, fleet visibility for schools, and OTP-verified handoff of every child.
- React Native
- TomTom Maps
- Push notifications
- Node.js
The challenge
The school commute is a daily blind spot. Parents cannot tell whether the van is five minutes away or thirty, so they call the driver mid-route. Schools cannot answer for a fleet they cannot see. And the moment that matters most — a child being handed to an adult — leaves no record at all; everyone simply assumes it went to the right person.
Our approach
- 1Modelled parent, school, and driver as three role-based experiences over one data model, so tenant isolation and access control were designed in rather than retrofitted into a live tracking product.
- 2Sampled location against movement and trip state instead of a fixed timer, so the van reports frequently while moving and goes quiet when parked — a tracker that drains the battery gets force-quit.
- 3Debounced geofence transitions per trip, so a van idling at a junction on the boundary cannot re-trigger the 500m approach alert and train families to ignore notifications.
- 4Made handoff an auditable event: a one-time code recorded against the trip, which is what turns reassurance for a parent into usable evidence for a school.
